Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 22:39:08 -0500 re. Nietzsche and language I seem to remember that Nietzsche referred to the "prison house of language," which would have been the inspiration for Fredric Jameson's book title. Unfortunately I don't recall where this might be found. Also, N. said, more or less, "We can't get rid of God because we still believe in grammar." Once again, I don't remember where. Anyone know proper references for these? Both Maria del Mar and I would appreciate it. I am especially in need of this information because I am working on the introduction to my splendid book, The Communist Manifesto with all Words Functioning as Nouns Removed so as to Make It Formally Consistent with the Theory of Dialectical Materialism. There are several places. Try Aphorism 354 "The Genius of the Species" from _The Gay Science_. Also the early essay "On Truth and Lying in a Non-Moral Sense."
