I think anyone in the arts or entertainment would be blown away on
first encounter with Bread & Puppet. I heard about the company long
before ever seeing them. In fact I saw a show in a park while I was
working in Vancouver, B.C. by two people who had worked with B & P.
They were doing "The Rat Movie" a two person cranky show. Even that
opened my eyes to possibility.

Then while visiting friends and the Mime Troupe in SF and Oakland, I
saw B & P doing a relatively small show in Berkely. Amazing of course.
Finally when B & P came to Milwaukee and did an out door show and a
full staging of (I cannot recall the name) a work set to the music of a
Mass. It was one of several defining events that forever influenced my
own work.

There is a fellow in Milwaukee who has his own puppet company. At some
point in time he worked with B & P and then started his company and
toured in Europe. He is able to finance his company pretty much
himself. His out door production work shows a great deal of B & P
influence and is always fun to see.

I am always amazed at how many people working in puppetry who have
never experienced Bread and Puppet.
