My Gregor www.magma.ca/~uubald/gregor.html  puppet required two fingers in 
the head. It is more comfortable at first, but it becomes tiresome with time 
adding tension to the fingers.

When I built Jerome during the puppet workshop, I saw they used a different 
method. since they've been performing with same style for 25 years, I 
thouhgt I'd give it a try. Lol.
For me, even with lots of doubt in my mind, the index finger-in-head method 
turned out to be more comfortable over time, and gives a less jerky 
movement. Also, it is easier for the puppet to grab ojects.

I did not get your Punch picture. I'd love to see it!

I think the list cancels attachments, like the old one did.
On my part, I receive attachments just fine usually.
