Subject: [Puptcrit] GSW event in NYC

Dear Friends of Great Small Works and/or afficienados of cutting edge
puppet wackiness in the greater New York City area:

We invite you to our Show and Tell about our new =93Rapture=20
Project=94 this Saturday evening, January 15, at the Great Small Works=20
studio: 55 Washington Street in D.U.M.B.O., room 714 (F train to York
Street or A/C to High Street). We can=92t promise a complete
performance, but there will be refreshments and it=92s an excuse to have=20
fun and see friends.

The =93Rapture Project=94 is a new Great Small Works show using
Sicilian marionette-style puppets and the scary outlines of the
fundamentalist Christian sense of apocalypse, in order to think about
what=92s going on around us. We have also been looking at Esther
Kaplan=92s book With God on Their Side (about fundamentalism and the Bush
regime), and also thinking about such characters as an abstinence-only=20
youth counselor, Muslim squatter punks from Buffalo, a Bernie
Kerik-type guy, an Ohio housewife in J-Lo running suit, a Devil, a
Susan-Sontag angel, etc. A lot of these characters will transform into=20
battle armor for Sicilian-marionette-style epic battles=85

Another level of the show is a heaven inspired by the
Cockettes, particularly the op-art backdrops of Jalila, and the
larger-than-life characters created by Hibiscus et al.

Does it all sound confusing? Hmmm=85. Come check out what=20
we=92ve been doing and help us make episodes of the show, etc. Or just=20
come by and say hello=85
