Ahhh, but he did.  In the Twilight Zone episode, "The Dummy," written by 
Rod Serling (based on an unpublished story by Lee Polk),
Rod wrote for a ventriloquist's dummy.  In another TZ episode, "Caesar and 
Me," written by A.T. Strassfield, a vent dummy, likewise, has a mind of its 
own. Rod at least oversaw that one.  Not exactly what you meant, I 
know.  By the way, I agree with your first statement on Mr. Serling's genius.
