I've always been more involved in the writing and performing end of things, 
rather than design and building of characters.  However, half (or less) of 
a ping-pong ball, with the eyeball painted on it works.  Maybe a black 
marble (from the previous poster's idea) peeking through a hole in the 
center of the ping pong ball would work.

Let us know what you end up doing.  When and where in L.A. will you be
