Thought someone else would bring this up sooner.  As
old-time science fiction fans know, "Waldo" as a term
for tele-operating derives from Robert Heinlein's 1942
novella of the same title.  It was used as early as
the '50s to describe analog manipulators.  If anyone
has rights to the term, it's the Heinlein estate.
