Subject: [Puptcrit] Historic Puppet Film Querie

Hi All!

A patron of ours, who is also a filmmaker, is seeking information on a film he saw many years ago and I thought someone here might be able to help. The film was a version of Hansel & Gretel, using the Humperdink score, that was apparently a mix of some mechanized motion and stop-motion photography. He vaguely remembers the term Kinematronics as perhaps the technique used, and also has a notion that he may have heard at one time that the figures might have been stored somewhere in Long Island City. He also remembers seeing a demonstration on New York television once that showed the mechanized witch character, who had a rather rudimentary range of motion. She was standing on a box of sorts that seemed to hold the mechanical control. His remembrance is that it looked like the figures were not entirely mechanized, nor was the film completely stop motion.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, or are there suggestions of where he might look for more information?
