 From the Animal Makers mold department:

Silicone jackets are preferable for inner mold walls.  Or a finer 
grained rock, like ultracal, if the mold must have a porous wall.  When 
mixing, don't "whip" it.  Just mix it.

Plaster itself is really not suitable for much of anything in mold 
making.  Using plaster, there are strength and dimensional stability 
issues.
