Hey I am not a puppet wiz, and this topic has been covered by some very 
knowledgeable people, but I learned somewhere that mixing a thinned rubber 
cement with acrylic works pretty well. And that is what I have used.
But be forewarned I guess that the thinner used for rubber cement (thinner) 
is naphtha...at least I think so.

It did give me a rather glossy finish which I was able to take down with 
some talc.
