In light of the conversation during the last few days, as I was reading my Mental Retardation text today I ran across a line which reads "Unfortunately, many professionals use instructional materials (eg. stuffed toys and puppets) ...........common to infants and toddlers...." So, even in our texts, puppets many times are deemed inappropriate for older children since they may result in childlike behavioral characteristics. If only people could see that puppetry is theatre and just as relevant for incorporating into one's study as Shakespeare!
