Either go to a magic shop or online store and obtain a  battery operated 
flasher
   this will produce a fountain of sparks and is hidden in your  hand.
   you can have the hand near his head as you throw the switch  causing the 
sparks
  to fly, These devices are an over sized cigarette lighter, if you  remember 
the manual
  lighters with a spark wheel and flint,
  You maybe able yo make one by using a tiny motor with a spark wheel  
attached to
  the shaft rubbing against a flint, this you can locate were you wish  and 
use a wire and
 either a foot pedal or have it connected to the switch you  throw
