He was seen as a great old vaudevillian doing routines that people had been seeing performers do for years. What many people did not realize is that Jay created those routines. He was a joy and a friend for puppetry. In the world of magic, he was a giant. The first time I street performed was at a street festival for the 5th anniversary of the Puppet Showplace in Boston (OK, Brookline). The guest of honor was Jay Marshall. He was also an audience member in my first street magic show. It was a little nerve wracking, but afterwards one couldn't have hoped for a more gracious and encouraging critique. Anyone who met Jay or saw him perform should count themselves fortunate indeed. Oh how he will be missed.
