For instance, the works of Beatrix Potter are in public domain, but all of the names, characters, and images are trademarked. If you want to perform the any of the works and use the names you must license the works. If you want to change all of the names you can do it without a license, but who is going to come see Freddie Rabbit instead of Peter Rabbit?
