You're right.  The magic word here is "paying," like the mortgage, the
electric bill, the gas bill, the car payment...But I also agree that it must
convey *my* message (or, in this case, the folktale's message with which I
agree) or what's the point. And besides, just like with Punch and Judy, why
should we let the tyranny of a few unenlightened people of this decade warp,
twist and destroy part of our century old heritage? Nancy

The kids can handle it. It's the parents who don't trust in their abilities,
their resilience.
Look at Bambi's Mom. Look at the witch falling off the cliff in Snow White.
Why is this any different?


You're right.  The kids can handle it, and in fact, generally prefer to see
that actions have consequences.  The bad get punished.  *But* the adults are
the ones paying for the show, so I think one does have to consider what will
keep *them* happy.
