These began when director Peter Schumann was working in a church in Brooklyn Heights, and provided theatrical spectacle for the church's Easter celebrations. In addition to various passion plays, including The Fourteen Stations of the Cross, which was toured widely in the 1970s, Bread and Puppet Theater has performed The Christmas Story, in various versions, from the 60s through the 90s. These shows all connect with biblical stories as a common language of the European tradition, and the early ones especially were very much centered on the meaning of the life of Jesus, but aren't connected to a particular church, nor do they proselytize for the Christian faith. jbell In a message dated 8/8/2005 12:13:08 PM Eastern Standard Time, bdr1020-AT-hotmail.com writes: It's actually pretty cool to see a high quality production with a Christian base. Most Christian productions are bad... really bad. Veggie Tales are wonderful. I can think of a few others that are good, but sadly enough most of them are bad.
