Brett,

Its because Disney are planning on having the Muppet characters appear at several different locations at any one time, this obviously means the Theme Parks, but also cruise ships, TV on both coasts, LA and NY, as well as in other countries and many other projects.

It was always difficult for the Henson company to commit to too many projects when they had to consider that one performer could only be stretched so far. Obviously Disney don't want to be restricted like that so they are auditioning other performers to take on the roles. I am not saying I agree with this in principal because a character is just that, a character on whole different levels not just a voice. However I think the Muppets have changed so much in the last few years, that it has been a long time since many of the characters had that kind of depth. If they are going to get back into the public eye then something like this is inevitable.

I recently worked on the Muppet Season One DVD set with Craig Shemin writer for many Muppet projects. (amongst other things I run the site www.kermitage.com ) We provided the Muppet Morsels - the trivia that can be switched on to play along side each episode. Fans have been waiting for Season by Season sets of the Muppet Show for years and years and yet it took Disney to buy the Muppets for us to get it within a year. Disney will get the Muppets back into the public eye and successful again unfortunately there may be things that fans don't really agree with that happen on the way. One thing is though they can't take away the past.

Michael.
