He and his wife were charter members of Puppeteers of America. His puppet creations were true works of art, made from wood he found growing in his own backyard in Vermont. His concept of puppet voices, came from the very materials from which they were made...wood striking a can, or mallet hitting a piano sounding board, etc. Basil always had a twinkle in his eye as he showed his most inventive creations. I hope someone has film or video of Basil describing his work. His use of "musical instruments" made from found materials was wonderful. With many of our elder puppeteers reaching the ends of their careers, it's important to document their work, so we don't continue to invent the same wheel.
