Tossing in my own experience here...

I had the most wonderful marionette stage, built by my father from some
plans from the PofA. It was used in my high school and college days, and of
late had been gathering dust under my basement stairs, as I've gravitated
more toward theatre than puppetry.

I felt strongly that the wonderful stage should be out there, used for
entertaining, and not gathering dust. I contacted libraries, schools,
churches, and the children's museum in the area -- offering to donate the
stage and all the trappings -- and no one was even remotely interested.

On a lark, I finally put it up on eBay, where to my shock, there was a
bidding war -- two bidders, one on the Atlantic coast, one on the Pacific.
The stage ended up going to a puppet company in Florida that was very
pleased to have it, and I hope it's "out there" basking in frequent
applause.

Best,
Scott
