He happens to be on our board of directors- and he writes: Please forward this answer to your friend with the question about Bunraku. Barbara Adachi is correct. There are many scenes in which two or more tayu sing (and speak). Two tayu are often used for michiyuki scenes, which have a lot of singing in them. Examples would be the michiyuki in `Sonezaki Shinju` and `Chushingura.` Humorous scenes with many characters also often use several tayu. Right now I'm at a hotel in Tokyo and don't have my personal library at hand, but if you need more specific scenes in which several tayu are used, contact me by e-mail after August 29, when I will be back in Portland. (so, Jamie- I'd be happy to introduce you via e-mail to Larry when he's back at home) yours, Nancy Nancy Aldrich Artistic Director Tears of Joy Theatre 323 NE Wygant St. #201 Portland, OR 97211 (503) 284-7562 www.tojt.com _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-lists.driftline.org Admin interface: http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org Archives: http://www.driftline.org
