FWIW,   Because of my involvement with PofA (my first festival was 
1955!!...but I was very young) and UNIMA-USA, I've met puppeteers from around the world. 
  I must stop to count the number of countries in which I have performed...it 
reads like a round the world travel documentary.   Because I befriended 
Japanese puppeteers at a PofA Fest, I was invited to Japan, people saw me there and 
invited me to Korea (next week for the fourth time.)   Because of UNIMA 
Connections I've performed in many middle eastern, formerly "eastern block" 
countries, Belarus, Russia, Siberia and in several South American countries.

 It's always fascinating to live in other cultures, at least for me.   I have 
a Serbian friend coming this Thursday to visit.   I'll be invited back again 
and again, and every festival or tour promotes the next one.   I learn from 
them and share my knowledge with them.   I picked up wonderful marketing tips at 
last week's fest.   Was infatuated with "Strings" the movie..already ordered 
my own copy from Amazon.CA (Canada, it's not released in US yet.)   Fests are 
for renewing old friendships, sharing ideas, and becoming energized for my own 
work.   

Why would someone not want to be a part??? Jim Gamble
