    Long live fiction, tall tales, and urban legends!  
    Of course, the bigger question is why is it necessary to make war heroes 
out of Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers?  Because they did not display the 
required amount of machismo, and were vocally and sincerely supporters of such 
ideas as peace and understanding?  If they are identified as war heroes 
underneath it all, especially at this moment in U.S. history, does that somehow make 
them more admirable people?
    The fact that they were both puppeteers is interesting as well.  Maybe 
the puppet connection was seen as part of some less-than-macho character traits. 
 
    Why was there a need to butch up their characters?
