Hi Jamie Ashby,
This is a good question.  I suspect only Henryk himself could answer  it.
His international reputation is certainly built on his seminal  contributions 
to the history and criticism of puppetry, and not on any  work as an artist 
in his own right.  
However, he did help found the puppetry/directing department at  the Warsaw 
Superior School of Theatre back in 1990.  I suspect he has  done his share of 
manipulating and crafting, as part of the many workshops and  classes he has 
taught over the years.  All this is speculation, of  course.
