I've always wanted to try my hand at carving puppets out of wood myself.  I prefer paper mache & various clays myself, as I have to limit my materials to methods that are safe & don't take up too much space. 
 But hey, I prefer puppets of ANY material over propaganda perpetuated by any folks on the extreme sides of the spectrum. If you want to think about politics or the recent events, think about how various artists and writers demonstrated how people would react in extreme situations: for example,
"Blindness" by Saramago and "Divided Kingdom" by Thompson are wonderful examples of humanity gone to the extreme. Imagine the same effort of lecturing can go into productive use by creating a novel, a poem or a puppet play!
