Hi, Robert & All:

I believe I know exactly what you're saying, and I agree with you. I see a lot of this kind of thing in the storytelling community, and it's usually actors-turned-storytellers who can't seem to get used to not being the center of attention. Not all actors are bad storytellers, but some of them truly are. It's the story that should have our attention, not the teller.

I'm sure I've insulted someone, so I'll shut up now.

Wow! I appreciate the comments. I'm not saying that I don't like
performances in which puppeteers are visible. I work that way occasionally.
And I admire the Bunraku artists, who have done so for hundreds of years. I
was (and still am) a fan of ventriloquists like the great Paul Winchell.
And I wish I had the sensitivity of Bruce Schwartz. And I'm not referring
to puppeteers who play roles in their shows, either.

I am thinking about people who would be better off concentrating on their
puppetry skills instead of contriving scenarios in which they are calling
attention to themselves.
