One nice things about being a working artist is that if there is  a 
style you don't like, you don't have to do it.
People's perceptions and opinions are like beliefs, totally subjective.
There is no point to arguing "right" or "wrong".
Some folks think that McDonald's sells food. That is their perception. 
Some may disagree, because they perceive differently.
Many people perceive puppets & Muppets to be the same thing. That is 
their perception.
Some folks on this list seem to work under the perception that puppetry 
is not a form, a style, a tradition of the art of theatre.

Go figure.

Arguing "legitimacy" of what is, basically a technique, seems as vacant 
as arguing that being right handed is the only legit  way to use human 
hands.
