Hi Jamie,

First, thanks for your kind words about the book.

There were two almost identical editions published simultaneously. In
the US, Abrams published it. But Thames and Hudson in London
simultaneously published the same book--just with a slightly
different (and, to my mind, odd) title and a slightly different
jacket and, I think, cover. (Naturallly, I wasn't consulted about the
changes.) The US edition has a matte jacket with big picture of a
Korean temptress on the front and a close closeup of a print of a
19th-century Punch on the back. I LOVE that cover. Thames and Hudson,
for some reason, made the jacket glossy and made front image smaller
and put Burmese marionettes on the back. I think the US cover is
MUCH cooler. But the content of the two books is identical.

I just did a quick calculation. Unless my arithmatic is screwy, the
Amazon.ca edition, at $62.70 CA$, costs roughtly $52.68 US$. The US
Amazon site has the edition with the spiffier jacket for $40.95 US.
(It sort of makes sense. Amazon.ca has to import the book from
England). In fact, the US Amazon price is pretty incredible. It's
lower than my author's price at Abrams. I've been getting my copies
from Amazon.

So......

In any case, I hope you enjoy it.

Best,
Eileen

PS In case this matters to anyone on the list: The first printing of
the book is more than 80% sold out now. Abrams will do another
printing, but not in time for Christmas.
