if it's oil clay you don't need the vaseline...

yes...my favorite trick is to use one layer of kleenex in the 
mold...then push the celluclay into that...it acts as a release...
I usually use pancakes of celluclay...then press a styrofoam ball or 
egg into that and immediately pull out the face...
...then sculpt the back of the head onto that...
