Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Actor Don Knotts dies at 81; made being a nerd OK

I recall a few years ago there were a couple of guys who were pulling
various scams in order to get into hot ticket Hollywood-show biz events
(Academy Awards, Golden Globes, etc. ) Once in they would approach
celebrities and do mini interviews. Then they wrote a book rating the
celebs as to how human or horrid they were in public to fans and
non-celeb people. I saw them on a talk show (Letterman I think) hyping
their book and relating a few stories. I recall how they characterized
Don Knots as the kindest, most approachable, most gracious, most polite
celebrity in all of Hollywood.

I had no idea of his ventriloquist background. I became a fan when I
saw him working as one of Steve Allen's funny man on the street
characters. I always thought he was a very versatile and brilliant
comedian whose understanding of character and comic timing was
extraordinary. He will be missed.
