Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Wroclaw Puppet Theater

Mark (and others)

Thanks for your interest.

The reason I'm asking what puppeteers would like to learn is to take
advantage of this residency by Wroclawski Teatr Lalek. Rather than come up
with a menu of options that could overlook or ignore what people are really
interested, I want to work with them to develop something that answers needs
in this community.

For example, if a number of people want to explore manipulation more fully,
that's what I would work out with them. If people are interested in delving
into how one directs puppet theater with a group of performers (as opposed
to doing it all oneself) well, that's what we would do. Maybe people are
interested in learning how Alexandr Maksymiak (the Artistic Director of the
company) communicates his ideas to his company.

I believe this represents a unique opportunity to learn from a company that
epitomizes what most of us have only dreamed of: a company that has existed
for 60 years, subsidized by the government and able to explore all kinds of
direction in puppetry. I'm interested in helping to make connections between
the work in our country and Poland that are responsive to what this
community wants and needs.

Because I want this to come from the community rather than being mandated
from a single source (me), I'm not going to just schedule a class or
workshop or whatever. It has been my experience that events like that don't
attract people.

As the name of this list comes from a desire to discuss the nature of
puppetry I've brought this question here. If I don't hear from anyone I'll
only be able to assume that there is no interest.
