Champagne reception Friday May 12, after performance. Carter Family Marionettes' annual 18th century marionette opera, "The Tragedy of Tragedies: The Life and Death of Tom Thumb". This rollicking risque and satirical libretto was penned in 1731 by Henry Fielding (the notorious author of "Tom Jones"). The lively music includes pieces by Arne, Hasse and the Celtic harpist O'Carollan, as well as British ballads and airs. "Tom Thumb" was one of the most popular operas in England and Ireland throughout the 18th century and continued to be staged for nearly 100 years. The diminutive hero, Tom Thumb, meets up with a lusty giantess, King Arthur, the Wizard Merlin, a ghost, and a hungry cow in this farcical work, which anticipates later trends in British "Panto" and Monty Python. The Carter family join forces with great fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld, outstanding harpsichordist, Jillon Stoppels Dupree, and woodwinds whiz Mark Roberts. A lively fusion of marionettes, folk music, and baroque opera. Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors (65+) and youth (up to age 16) Showtimes are Fridays -AT- 8:00 p.m., Saturdays -AT- 2:00 & 8:00 p.m., and Sundays -AT- 2:00 p.m. Contact the box office at 206-523-2579 info on the web at http://www.nwpuppet.org or email info-AT-nwpuppet.org _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-lists.driftline.org Admin interface: http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org Archives: http://www.driftline.org
