Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Digital recorder?

Dear Paul and others,

Ever since I bought it last summer, I have relied upon my Olympus DS-2 digital
(stereo!) recorder ("as seen on _Rock Star INXS," as the website claimed at the
time) a number of times. You just hook it up to your computer's USB port (I have
a Mac laptop), and it downloads the recordings automatically. Lots of memory,
several different recording settings, packaged software (although I would
recommend Express Scribe, a fairly decent freeware transcription aid), and very
helpful accessories. The only one I have so far is a pick-up mic for recording
telephone conversations (I only use it for interviews and ask permission before
I start recording!). It's not entry-level, but it isn't in Olympus's
"professional line," which is VERY expensive.

Best,

Jamie Ashby
