Subject: [Puptcrit] phrasing inconvenient truths & BasSax discount for

There's an excellent and literate contribution, thank you Kristin.

And now for some self-less self-promotion:

By popular demand (whatever that may be) BasSaxophone re-opens tomorrow for 5
more weeks (info below). Admission by donation. You can take your life in
your hands and hope the 50 seat Memorial Arch will not be sold out. Or you can
pay a small amount for reserved seats on
http://www.smarttix.com/show.aspx?showcode=BAS0

You can also use discount code "earth" and get a reserved seat for
half-price or $9 for this weekend performances of Bass Saxophone!! Huge
discount!

Still too steep? Economically challenged? Inquire about our ushering
program to gain free admission.

Or: do you have roofing abilities? Would you like to help us fix a leaky
National Historic Monument at Grand Army Plaza in picturesque Brooklyn, NY? You
could get a load of puppets from our store and many free tickets, puppetry
books, you could be wined and dined... The rains aren't over yet!

PS:
This is an exciting time for us and as you can tell from this weird message,
I am high as a kite on little sleep and on letting another baby out into the
world.

Puppeteers, I have found, are fairly passionate people and I believe it is
important this forum be a venue to express those passions, whether it be
artistic, political or otherwise. This said, there are many ways to approach an
issue in a way which relates to the art of puppetry. As Dr. Bell touched upon,
the discussion of An Inconvenient Truth could have been approached from many
different angles which I feel would have made it much more palatable to pucrit
readers. I personally would be fascinated by a study of the evolution of Gore's
presentation methods as it appears to have some correlations to the rise of
animation as a dynamic teaching tool.
I just completed a show in which one of the directors created a piece called
"Problems and Solutions for your Consideration". In one of our first meeting,
she asked all the participants to offer issues they believed to be problems
and offer solutions. What amazed me the most was that not only did the
solutions vary greatly from person to person, but the perceptions of what were "real"
problems in our society were just as diverse. What kept the discussion
alive, however, was the director's interest in how best to discuss these issues
within the context of a puppet show. On this list, puppetry is our common
denominator and we should do our best to approach our comments with this in mind.
