I have no access nor any budget >or time (short deadline) to learn about animatronics. The cheapest, and perhaps the fastest way to solve it is to not do it. Do the eyes HAVE to move? Is it a critical part of the story line? If you need the eyes to move, perhaps you can make a duplicate head with the rod sticking out of the head. Then film that portion, being careful to position frame the shot so the rod is not seen. You might also make a larger size copy of the head with more room for the mechanism inside. You said it wasn't stop motion, but if the close up of the head with the eyes moving is short, perhaps you could do that segment as stop motion. Then you would only need re-posable eyes, but not a mechanism. By the way, for some reason, on the "from" field of your messages it says "=?Windows-1252?Q?Mathieu_René?=" as your name.
