Brings to mind a recent CBS network TV show (Letterman). Comedian Bill
Maher was on and the subject of drugs came up.
(puppetry relevance note: My initial puppetry experiences were with
puppets made by my mother and next made with other students in the one
room elementary schoolhouse in rural Wisconsin, late 1940s-early
1950's. But once tv became a factor in out house, thanks to Howdy Doody
& Kukla, Fran & Ollie, the box that was the tv always seemed a puppet
stage to me, still does...)

Anyway, Letterman wanted to talk about Maher's illegal drug use, but
Maher wanted to do a rant about why some drugs are legal (because large
corps can make money off them) while those that people can easily
grow/create themselves are not legal. He then accused Letterman of
being a drug addict (none of this was mean minded, these guys are pro
entertainers). He explained that coffee was a drug delivery product and
asked, "Do you drink coffee?" Letterman (finally the punch line of this
tedious message) replied"Hey, if it wasn't for coffee, I'd have no
personality at all!.

I'd have to say that more than once, while doing a live show in a
school gym or at a university conference session, that I felt that
without coffee, our my characters would have no personality at all.
