Subject: [Puptcrit] ERGOTAXIO: Puppetry Arts School in Greece


To the international puppet family:
Dear friends and colleagues,

After a long period of planning, we are happy to announce the opening 
of ERGOTAXIO (=worksite), a professional training school on puppetry 
arts, in the city of Athens, Greece.

In our country, it is the first time that such a program is being 
established and is something all puppeteers have been waiting and 
discussing for years.

The duration of the studies will be three years, six hours per day. 
The program includes: hard technical training on a big variety of 
tools, materials and techniques, body and vocal training, puppet 
construction, puppet animation, lighting design, direction, 
scenography, history and theory of theatre and puppetry arts. It aims 
to produce a new generation of artists, ready to step in the 
profession. Each three years course is capable of training 10 
students.

The program consists of a basic corpus plus many additional workshops 
on special issues. The trainers are professional puppeteers and 
artists from Greece and other European countries.

The building is fully equipped with workshop, theatre (100 seats), 
smaller theatre (60 seats), library, rooms for body and vocal 
training, etc. It is located in the center of Athens in 2 old 
beautiful neighboring houses.

The theatre of the school is going to host the students' work after 
their graduation too.

We believe that the school is going to upgrade the level of puppet 
production in Greece. Even though we are persuaded that there exist 
young people who will decide to invest in the perspective of puppetry 
for their studies and future profession, the establishment of the 
school is an experiment that will probably need some time to flourish.

But we want it very much, we will do our best and we are fully aware 
of the responsibility of such an attempt.

Ergotaxio is open to collaboration with puppet companies and puppet 
theatre schools.
