I've made complicated ones with 7 pieces. Greg Ballora helped me makde a video about 20 years ago, which was primarily for neoprene, but shows how to do simple shim plaster casting. I learned it first hand from Romaine Proctor at the 1955 PoA Festival at Bowling Green, Ohio... You don't need a cardboard box, and you can achieve very tight molds with tim shims....Jim Gamble I cannot imagine using the string pulling method for an 8 inch head or even a 2 inch head and get fine definition.
