Hi Alice.
I was using water yes, sometimes even dipping the whole sculpt into it, but 
only at the end of my session, to make sure it wouldn't gettoo soggy for the 
rest of the time...

AS for skin contact, I am still very scared.
But that's me, I'm extreme.
check out te FAQ section on the AVes website, they mention the possibility, 
and wave it off by saying anybody could develop allergies to any product...
