Subject: [Puptcrit] Bunraku

Robert Napoli posed a question about gasping hands of Bunraku puppets.

Some books in English or Japanese contain diagrams. But that led me to search on my msntv system, and there are 52,815 entries-some of which duplicate, but that would require a lot of time.

Whitman College has 17 photos of Bunraku heads in the college collection: well worth looking at.

University of Missouri in Columbia MO has an interesting program for students to study and learn Bunraku in Japan at the Imada Troupe or the Kuroda Troupe (both 300 years old) and otherwise make valuable puppet connections in Japan, including a puppet festival in early August.

Lots of good photos posted in conjunction with this impressive program which covers 9 units credit, 3 of which are learning Japanese (from beginning level, mid level or beyond)

In Columbia, Bunraku Bay Puppet Troupe performs with impressive Bunraku figures and is available for some touring.
