Mask and puppet performance are co-relatives of each other in Southeast Asia so mask dancers are thought of as wayang topeng (masked puppets) and the icopnography and rules of performance are taken from the puppetry. I will be giving a talk at the opening on July 8 and discussing some of the cosmological ideas behind and why puppetry/solo mask performance (puppeteers and mask dancers may be the same persohn) is conceptually the superior art in this part of the world. If you are in the area, please drop in. The exhibit will be up for a while, so if you get to Atlanta, check it out and share any feedback on the ideas. best, -- Kathy Foley Professor, Theatre Arts Editor, Asian Theatre Journal J-15 Theatre Arts 1156 High St. Santa Cruz, CA 95064 tel.
