Subject: [Puptcrit] Another approach: How much should a 17 inch marionette

Usually one can pack about six 17-inch marionettes (if not fat ones) in a box
measuring 18 x 18 x 26 inches. For airline travel, the combination of
dimensions should be no more than 62 inches AND 50 pounds. The box material (and
rollers) will weigh about 10 pounds, so SIX marionettes should weigh no more
than 40 pounds. Forty pounds divided by 6 is 6-7 pounds each. (You might
also be packing cross bars, poles, curtains, etc.)

This is one way to look at it. Hold the marionette out by one arm for 10
minutes. At what weight does your arm start to ache? Some marionettes weigh
more than others because of shoe size, internal mechanisms, etc.

I drill out all excess material in wooden pieces...arms, legs, shoes, body,
etc. I drill out anything not affecting the structural integrity of the figure.
I can never get the figures light enough.

Just a thought.. there is no correct answer...Jim Gamble
