    John Boylan presents:

An evening of stunning urban spectacle and incredibly huge puppets

GIANT PUPPETS IN LONDON: A CLOSE-UP LOOK AT ROYAL DE LUXE AND THE
SULTAN'S ELEPHANT

    Monday, July 31, 7-9 pm
Youngstown Cultural Art Center, in their air conditioned theater
    4408 Delridge Way SW

We're back this summer for one event: Ellen Ziegler's video and slide
talk about Royal de Luxe, Europe's renowned street theater company.

You all may have seen pictures on the Web from this French troupe's
spectacular street theater "The Sultan's Elephant," about a
twenty-foot-tall space-traveling little girl who meets up with a 42-ton
time-traveling mechanical elephant
(http://www.thesultanselephant.com/gallery/large_image_pages/W2H0834.php).
The show was first produced last year in France to commemorate the
centenary of Jules Verne's death and was restaged this spring in London.

Seattle artist Ellen Ziegler (http://www.ellenziegler.com) was in
London to see the spectacle. Her sister-in-law is Nicky Webb, and Nicky's
company Artichoke Productions
(http://www.artichokeproductions.co.uk/index.htm) produced the event in
London. Ellen has returned to Seattle with slides, video, and plenty of
stories about Royal de Luxe.

For those of you who love circus, street theater, giant puppets, and
pure spectacle, this presentation is for you. As the Guardian put it,
this was "an artistic occupation of the city and a reclamation of the
streets for the people."

As always, this event is free. This time, however, we'll be passing
the hat to defray projection and space costs.

As for the conversations, I frankly have given them little thought of
late. But stay tuned, they'll be back in the fall.

For questions, contact John Boylan at 206-781-5674.
