We use Paypal a bit, buying from all over the place, India in particular 
which is a bit risky normally and Paypal has been great. In the only dispute 
We've had they acted quickly and fairly to resolve the dispute. Its not 
infalible but its the safest for all.
Essentially you establish an account with Paypal and create credit in it, 
like a bank, you then transfer into other Paypal Accounts using emails and 
user names, that way no one has access to your credit card/bank account 
details. The only down side is the fees involved so we only use it for 
international money transfers which makes it quiet cheap.
