In thinking about your sweat question, I suddenly remembered thingies my 
grandmother used to wear under her dresses. I don't know what they were really 
called, but I always thought of them as Pit Pads.

Maybe instead of trying to sweatproof your masks you could build a sort of 
under mask, made of terrycloth so it could be washed -- something that would fit 
fairly tight against the skin to absorb the sweat, but would be entirely 
separate from the outer masks.
