Subject: [Puptcrit] peter scriven and the tintookies

I'm currently undergoing research for an MA thesis on the puppeteer Peter Scriven, The Tintookies and The Marionette Theatre of Australia (MTA), focussing particularly on their Southeast Asian tour in 1966/67 (the first in the region by an Australian performing group). After two years of badgering people and ferretting in archives, I already have a wealth of material on the subject. I hope to create not only an addition to Australia's puppetry history, but also argue for puppetry's inclusion as an acceptable and important subject for analysis in Australian cultural history (and cultural history in general).
I'm interested in increasing my collection of oral histories, and would be keen to hear from anyone who may have worked with Scriven and the MTA before 1975, or who remembers seeing their shows.
I'd also like to hear from anyone else who is working to pull puppets out of the ghetto and acknowledge their siginficanc not only to performance history, but also to political and social histories.

Cheers

David Tredinnick (Melbourne, Australia)
