Hi Steve,

Sure. Steel boning is used for making hoop skirts, corsets, and
very large light weight whales.

The product comes in 25 feet rolls and generally runs about $11 to $13
per roll. You can get it with a plastic casement (we didn't like these)
or a Buckram casement. Two thin strips of Steel boning with about 3/16th
of an inch spaced between and wrapped in Buckram. You do have to have a
good wire cutting tool to work with it, but we have found it to be
really a great asset in our studio for building large items, for
flexible necks in Table top Rods, well, the list goes on.

We purchase from Greenberg & Hammer in New York, but if you are not on
the East Coast look for your closest Costume materials supply house. I
don't think I have ever seen it a small fabric store, but a couple
Findings store on our "Fabric Row" in town carry it, but it is much more
expensive.

We use Jean rivets by Dritz to connect cross pieces with a pair of
locking blunt nosed pliers. Once we have the frame work, we cover with
Aerated foam (Also known as Reticulated(sp) foam), if it is a costume to
be worn, or with basic polysheet foam (thickness determined by the
project)to cover, then Fabric.

Dritz Jean rivets will seem a bit expensive when you first start this
process, but we found that the cheaper ones are exactly that, you get
a ton of waste with them breaking instead of joining. Dritz comes in
packets of 25 pairs, and it is unusual to loose more than one if that
from a packet.

Please feel to contact directly if you require more information.

Best,
Liz
