I saw a Guignol show in Paris in May.  (Guignol is the French cousin to Mr. 
Punch.)  It was actually something along the lines of  "Guignol and the 
Three Little Pigs".  In this version the wolf got into the pigs' house and 
the second act consisted of Guignol and other stock characters getting rid 
of the wolf for the pigs.  The characters included a crocodile and a black 
boxer with big bright red lips.  I was very surprised to see the boxer as 
such an old stereotype.  My assumption was that the character had been a 
part of traditional Guignol shows for a very long time.
