The pattern being made from foil next to the surface of the model will be the pattern for the INSIDE of the mask or head or whatever is being duplicated. The thickness of the foam will naturally increase the overall dimension somewhat. I also suggested only covering half the head, or symetrical shape as the pattern can be turned over to duplicate the opposite side, Use the foam rubber to it's advantage...don't try to duplicate minutely, but only for general shapes...if the pattern gets too niggardly, scant, or tedious the result will not be satisfactory.
