Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] copywright material

So what is the best way to obtain the rights to materials? I have
obtained the rights to the Beatrix Potter stories that we perform, but
there are two pieces that I am interested in doing that I am unsure
about who to contact for the permission adapt and rights to perform
these works.
Also, is there a simple, cost effective, way to get rights to musical
works? Often the pieces are in public domain but the recordings of them
should be due something as those artist are very mush alive. If, say,
you used six pieces of classical music, recorded by different artist
(symphonies?) it seems like it would be rather cost prohibitive to pay
several different companies. I know big productions pay a flat fee, but
what about small theaters or solo performers?
