I was aware of it, and most respectable brands of halogen lamps have UV block built in. I must admit, though, that the UV thing sort of slipped my mind when I recently bought a bunch of Higuchi brand lamps online so that I could get 12v 150w and thus increase my fixture's brightness by 50%. (Higuchi was the only brand that offered 12v/150w.) Now that they've arrived, the box indicates that the lamp should be used with a fixture with a glass UV shield. So I guess either 1) I buy a hardware store work light, take the glass shield from that and clip it onto my fixture somehow. (But then I'd have to drill a bunch of holes for heat ventilation, and more light would escape.) or 2) I pitch the the Higuchi lamps and go back to using the 100w Feit lamps, which are UV protected. or 3) I build another fixture -- 24v or 120v -- so that I can use higher watt lamps from Osram, Sylvania or Feit, all of whom build UV protection into their lamps. Or I could just wear a hoodie and sunglasses whenever I'm behind stage. (Just kidding.) Regards, Diane http://www.freshwaterpearlspuppetry.com |On a side note. That annoying glass on the halogen lights isn't just glass. |It's a filter that takes ultraviolet (UV) out. You might want to go to the |manufacturers website and check out how much UV the naked lamp throws. Or |not.
